Judge Gets In Trouble For Getting DUI

In June 2011, Judge Jeffery Davis, chief judge of the Monroe County Magistrate Court and also a judge for the Forsyth Municipal Court was arrested for DUI in Bibb County GA. Shortly thereafter, Judge Davis entered a guilty plea in the State Court of Bibb County to the charge of Driving Under the Influence and was sentend to 12 months probation, a fine, and 24 hours to serve in the county jail.

The day after his DUI arrest, Davis resigned as Judge in the Forysth Municipal Court stating the could no longer preside over DUI cases. The Forsyth Municipal Court has jurisdiction over many DUI and traffic offenses as well as offenses like possession of marijuana and underage possession of alcohol.

The state agency for Georgia that is responsible for disciplining judges has recently issues a private reprimand to Judge Davis who still is serving as a Magistrate Court Judge for Monroe County. The Judicial Qualifications Commission privately reprimanded Davis making only the fact that there was a reprimand public and not any of the details. The agency stated that the disposition is fair to all concerned.
