Atlanta Asst. Principal Charged with DUI

An assistant principal at Atlanta's Booker T. Washington High School has been arrested and charged with DUI and related offenses. Tanisha Rodgers Thomas was, according to reports, pulled over by a Georgia State Patrol officer on the morning of December 21, 2011 for DUI and allegedly causing a wreck and leaving the scene. Principal Thomas is charged with driving drunk in Atlanta on Waterford Club Drive and striking another vehicle and then leaving the scene. Shortly thereafter, she allegedly struck a second vehicle, causing serious injuries to the driver, and again left the scene of the accident. According to the Atlanta DUI officer, she then ran her vehicle off the road, hit a curb and crashed into a fire hydrant.

The Atlanta DUI officer charged Ms. Thomas with seven charges including DUI, hit and run, failing to obey a traffic control device, failing to maintain her lane and driving without headlights.

According to a spokesperson for Atlanta Public Schools, Ms. Thomas has resumed her position as Assistant Principal while the charges are pending. She has not been found guilty of any offense so the school system is not taking any action against her at this time.
