Republican State Representative Kip Smith was arrested early Friday morning according to reports for driving under the influence ( DUI ) in Fulton County GA. Smith, the 29 year old representative from Columbus, GA was driving in Peachtree Rd. when he was stopped by Atlanta DUI officer Kramer for running a red light. Smith allgedely told Officer Kramer that he did not realize the light was red. According to reports, Kramer noticed the odor of alcohol coming from Smith's person. Mr. Smith also notably informed the DUI officer that he was a state representative. Smith at first told the officer that he did not have any drinks. He later admitted to consuming beer. Representative Smith consented to some field sobriety tests, which Fulton Co. law enforcement typically asks those suspected of DUI to perform. After the tests, Smith was placed under arrest for DUI. At the jail, Smith took the
breath test and blew over the legal limit of .08.
