Local news stations have been reporting that a Doraville police officer was fired from his position as a DUI officer for the City of Doraville after being charges himself with a DUI. According to reports, last weekend the officer had left a Doraville strip club and rear ended a vehicle driven by a 69 year old woman on Memorial Drive in DeKalb County Georgia.
The woman sustained injuries and DeKalb County police responded to the scene. The DeKalb officers began to suspect the officer of being under the influence of alcohol, though he stated the accident was caused by his dozing off. The police officer submitted to DUI field sobriety evaluations such as the HGN, walk and turn, and one leg stand. According to DeKalb County police reports, he had difficulty with these DUI tests. He reportedly took a breath test that yielded a result of .15%.
The officer was placed on leave by the Doraville police department following his arrest and the decision then came that he was terminated from the force. He is facing four charges currently in DeKalb County and awaiting his arraignment date. His charges are DUI, following too closely, not having valid registration and for not having proof of car insurance.
DeKalb County is tough on drunk driving and a skilled lawyer can help. The police officer is facing prosecution for driving while intoxicated by his former Doraville and DeKalb County colleagues. According to WSB news, neither the officer nor any lawyers on his behalf have issued any comments relating to the arrest or the termination.
