Atlanta Public Safety Headquarters

Atlanta, Ga. - Investigators with the Atlanta Police Department are investigating a single-car collision that resulted in the death of a driver earlier this evening in S.E. Atlanta.

The incident occurred just off of Southside Industrial Parkway. When police officers arrived, they discovered a large SUV had driven off of the roadway and hit a tree. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. No other information has been released at this time.

Many times when an accident of this nature occurs, there is another traffic incident that leads to it. This can also be in the form of a traffic violation such as speeding in Atlanta. As an Atlanta DUI Defense Lawyer, I will outline how accidents specifically correlate with DUI in Atlanta.

Accidents and DUI in Atlanta

If you were involved in a car accident, the accident itself can be used to support a DUI charge by showing you were less safe to drive depending on the circumstances of the accident. Moreover, car accidents can lead to additional charges.

Ultimately, any traffic violation is additional support for the prosecution's claim that you were less safe to drive. When the violation involves an accident, the combined circumstances may make you appear guilty. This is especially true if the accident involves Hit and Run in Atlanta. This is because it shows that you failed to take responsibility for your involvement and you injured another's person or property.

There are various other charges that could be added. This is why it is of the utmost importance to hire representation.
